PETA has a comprehensive but out of date (2013) list here of things you can purchase in the grocery store that are “accidentally vegan”. Items that are accidentally vegan but NOT on the PETA list can be found below. Note: Manufacturers can change their ingredients at any time so checking the label is always best. Caution-“Plant Based” is being used to ‘green wash’ products and is OFTEN used to sell vegan meat mixed with animal cheese or animal milk products. Plant Based often means NOT VEGAN (ie Jimmy Deans sandwich, Plantivore items).

Breads MOST French bread & MOST Sourdough breads. Most hot dog/hamburger buns. Most loaf breads-typically the name will cue if it has honey or buttermilk in it, but check the label first. Kroger brand English Muffins. (Thomas brand is NOT). Canned Crescent rolls (see below). Dinner rolls-see Cooking tab, holiday page. Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix the vegetarian one (veganize by omitting egg & add 1/2 tsp baking powder to mix, 3 Tbsp applesauce, & use vegan milk or water instead of milk, bake according to package).
Breakfast (see cereal below) Pearl Milling whole wheat waffle mix, Bisquick, regular & Reduced fat, and MOST Kroger brand “Baking Mix”. Van’s-Many of their frozen waffles (like their Original) and pancakes are vegan. Frozen Kroger brand Original AND Cinnamon French Toast Sticks but Aldi are NOT. Kodiak Plant Based pancake mix is vegan.
